The Office of the Resident Coordinator (ORC) is responsible for the management and support of the Resident Coordinator System at the country level. The Resident Coordinator System brings together the various UN agencies working in Namibia, including non-resident ones, with the aim to achieve a better focus and enhance the impact of their activities. For this purpose, it promotes a coordinated multidisciplinary approach to the needs of recipient countries, under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator, who is the designated representative of the Secretary-General for development operations.
In addition, the Resident Coordinator System supports cross-cutting issues such as donor harmonization, development of joint programmes and disaster risk management.
The resident UN agencies are represented by their respective heads of agency in the UN Country Team (UNCT), chaired by the Resident Coordinator. Non-resident agencies supporting development activities in Namibia are invariably represented by the Resident Coordinator.
Country Teams closely work with national governments, civil society and the international community to effectively respond to national priorities and challenges.
Country Teams are supported by three Working Groups that oversee UN support activities as outlined in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
The Resident Coordinator System in Namibia is composed of nine resident and four non-resident agencies. It is headed by the Resident Coordinator, Ms. Kari Egge.
The Office of the Resident Coordinator is currently composed of 4 staff members supporting the various functions of the Resident Coordinator System in Namibia.
